Content Marketing Manager

Job Description

Our company’s mission revolves around aiding businesses in connecting with their clientele on a human level, employing relevance and context. Currently, we achieve this objective through software designed to assist businesses with substantial user bases in sending customized emails (among other message types) based on user behavior. We’re seeking a creative marketer and writer to help us embody this people-focused approach in our interactions with our audience, potential leads, and customers.

This role isn’t about constantly generating content for the sake of driving traffic or indiscriminately growing email lists. Content marketing has been pivotal to Customer.io’s growth from the outset, when our CEO shared insights into email marketing and user retention. Your responsibility will be to continue this tradition, crafting, refining, and promoting educational materials, customer narratives, and brand communications that make engaging with Customer.io both informative and personable amidst the cacophony of marketing noise on the internet.

What will your responsibilities include?

  1. Creating valuable content: This entails producing original blog posts, articles, ebooks, landing page copy, and other marketing resources. You’ll also explore various formats and mediums, such as video tutorials or podcasts, and conduct research on behavioral marketing and customer communication to enhance the quality of our content.
  2. Expanding our audience: You’ll play a key role in amplifying our content’s reach by executing promotional activities like newsletters, marketing campaigns, guest post pitches, social media engagement, and networking with influencers and partners.
  3. Maintaining our brand voice: You’ll refine marketing copy and ensure consistency in style, tone, and voice across all company communications, including product descriptions and documentation.
  4. Developing content strategy: Collaborating with the marketing team, you’ll devise and implement content strategies, identify new content opportunities, and optimize our web properties for better search visibility.
  5. Reporting and analysis: You’ll monitor and analyze the performance of our content marketing efforts using tools like Google Analytics, providing insights to refine our strategies.
  6. Content management: You’ll assist in managing our content plan and editorial calendar to ensure a steady flow of high-quality content.

You’ll be joining a small team alongside Janet Choi and Bill Miksich, and you’ll collaborate with contractors and other teams to deliver valuable content to our audience.

What qualities are we looking for in you?

  • Exceptional writing skills: You can convey complex ideas clearly, craft compelling narratives, and infuse your writing with personality and empathy. You also recognize the importance of editing in the writing process.
  • Track record of marketing success: Ideally, you have experience in content marketing for a SaaS company or have written about tech/marketing for various publications, demonstrating your ability to build an audience.
  • Proactive outreach: You understand the effort required beyond content creation to distribute it effectively and nurture relationships with stakeholders.
  • Audience-focused mindset: You prioritize providing substance and value to readers over achieving viral success. You’re adept at understanding and engaging with our audience to create meaningful content.
  • Eagerness to learn: While domain expertise is not mandatory, you’re enthusiastic about diving into new topics and sharing your insights through writing.
  • Resourcefulness and self-direction: You excel at problem-solving and managing multiple projects independently, thriving in a startup environment.
  • Effective communication: You communicate articulately and empathetically, fostering collaboration and transparency within the team.
