Communications Campaigner – US Region

Job Description

The Communications Campaigner for the United States team at Oil Change International (OCI) is tasked with devising and executing communication strategies to further the objectives and initiatives of the team. This involves collaborating closely with team members, cross-team communication staff, and key partners. The primary aim is to exert pressure on international, federal, and state-level entities to halt the expansion of fossil fuels and promote a phase-out rooted in both scientific understanding and principles of justice.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategy Development: Work with the United States Team to create and implement communication strategies supporting ongoing work and events. Coordinate with OCI’s Communications Director and team to enhance communication platforms.
  2. Media Outreach: Develop and maintain press lists, pitch stories to reporters, monitor media coverage, and evaluate impact metrics.
  3. Content Creation & Dissemination: Generate various materials such as press releases, messaging guides, social media content, videos, and more. Ensure alignment with campaign messaging and manage publishing schedules.
  4. Partner Engagement: Offer communication support to regional and local partners involved in campaigns against fossil fuel infrastructure. Foster relationships with communication-focused allies and partners.
  5. Administration: Maintain work plans, contribute to meetings, coordinate messaging with cross-team communication staff, and handle administrative tasks promptly.

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise:

Required:

  • Strong proficiency in English.
  • Three to five years of advocacy experience in social justice and/or energy and climate policies, with a focus on communication strategies.
  • Ability to translate complex concepts into engaging content for various audiences.

Desired:

  • Existing connections with journalists covering climate and energy topics.
  • Experience in remote work environments.
  • Proficiency in social media strategies and media tracking tools.
  • Familiarity with Google Apps, graphic design, and video editing tools.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
