The Calyx Institute is on the lookout for a Design Director to join their team. In this role, the Design Director will take the lead in crafting Calyx’s creative output, enhancing advocacy efforts through top-notch product quality, user experience, and design. They’ll oversee all aspects of branding and visual communication for the institute.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of driving design and creative strategies across both print and digital mediums, resulting in increased digital engagement. They should excel in developing brand identities, visualizing data for organizational impact, and collaborating with a diverse global community. Adaptability, energy, and a knack for thriving in a technically-driven collaborative setting are essential qualities.

Key responsibilities include spearheading visual design and branding initiatives for all programs, developing a cohesive visual communication system to engage Calyx’s communities, and providing creative direction for platforms like CalyxOS and the institute’s websites. The Design Director will also be tasked with producing compelling designs across various media, creating style guides for Calyx products, and collaborating closely with developers to ensure smooth website development.

Moreover, they’ll play a pivotal role in project management discussions, refining deliverables, and optimizing designs through user research and feedback loops. Additionally, the Design Director will contribute to advocacy efforts around digital security awareness and education, while also building and nurturing an in-house production team.

Required skills for the role include a proven ability to lead design projects, excellent communication and team management skills, expertise in design software like Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, and a minimum of 10 years of relevant design experience. Preferred qualifications include a degree in graphic design or a related field, familiarity with Internet freedom and digital rights, and proficiency in Adobe Products, Figma, Canva, and other relevant software.

The compensation for the Design Director position is $120,000 annually, and it’s a full-time remote role with benefits including health, vision, and dental insurance, flexible paid time off, and 401k retirement account contribution.
