Job Description

Arkadium is looking for a seasoned Game Designer to collaborate with our esteemed client, Microsoft, on a range of high-performing games. You will play a pivotal role in creating exceptional gaming experiences.

As a Game Designer, you’ll be responsible for developing casual games for Windows, mobile, and web platforms. You’ll support multiple top casual titles and lead creative directions, always prioritizing the user experience.

This is a remote position, but candidates must be available to work from 09:00 to 18:00 Western European Time (WET), aligning with the time zone of our Engineering and Product teams based in Portugal.

Remote candidates outside Portugal will be onboarded as contractors via our international payroll provider.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate, pitch, and prototype engaging core game mechanics.
  • Develop strong visions and guidelines for content and level design to achieve retention and revenue goals.
  • Manage specific tasks in level design and content creation.
  • Collaborate with Game Producers, Engineers, Artists, and other stakeholders to define project design specifications and system mechanics.
  • Oversee game economies and devise monetization strategies with product management.
  • Continuously optimize games for both short- and long-term retention, focusing on key performance indicators.
  • Ensure game quality aligns with Microsoft’s brand standards and customer expectations.
  • Contribute innovative design ideas across the Games portfolio.
  • Gather and analyze feedback to enhance products and design processes.
  • Maintain design documentation for all titles.
  • Advocate for best practices and standards across all game titles.

Requirements:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in the casual/free-to-play industry.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in Game Development, with a focus on Game Design.
  • Understanding of free-to-play game mechanics and current gaming trends.
  • Exceptional communication, analytical, and creative thinking skills.
  • Ability to lead game design features from ideation through production.
  • Proficiency in game design documentation and clear articulation of features.
  • Strong project and time management skills to ensure timely delivery.

  • Experience with accessibility.
  • Experience with UX/UI.
