About the Role

We’re looking for a Lead QA Engineer with a strong focus on mobile to join our Engineering team. This role involves leading our QA team and being hands-on, particularly with our mobile automation test framework. Responsibilities include managing the QA team of three, organizing work, removing blockers, and supporting team growth.

We prefer candidates in North/South American (AMER) and European (EMEA) time zones.


  • Ensure product quality for a seamless user experience.
  • Ship updates frequently and carefully.
  • Develop robust test automation frameworks for Android and iOS using Appium/WebdriverIO and support our web application using Watir.
  • Define and prioritize the QA roadmap independently.
  • Enhance code quality and identify architectural deficiencies.
  • Conduct thorough PR reviews with Circle’s engineers.
  • Lead and mentor the QA team, contributing to hiring and performance management.
  • Collaborate closely with product and design leaders.
  • Work with engineers to maintain a high-quality user experience.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Strong alignment with our values (refer to our career page).
  • Proficient in English (CEFR Level C1/ILR Level 5).
  • 8+ years of QA experience with complex mobile and web applications.
  • Proficient in mobile QA test frameworks, particularly Appium for React Native applications.
  • Familiarity with both mobile and web test automation.
  • 2+ years of experience managing and mentoring engineers/QA.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, iterative, and autonomous work environment.
  • Motivation to understand business and user needs.
  • Adaptability and comfort with ambiguity.
  • Knowledge of agile software development principles.
  • Strong judgment and attention to detail in technical and design decisions.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with Elasticsearch, Sidekiq, Kafka, GraphQL.
  • Experience with community platforms, CRM/Marketing tools, email deliverability, or the creator space.
  • Experience in a fast-growing startup environment.
