Product Manager

Job Description

The Wikimedia Foundation seeks a Product Manager to join the Core Platform Team, focusing on developing the next generation of APIs for internal teams and third-party developers.

As the Product Manager, you will collaborate with partners to create roadmaps and goals, ensuring progress is made. You’ll work closely with various departments, including Engineering, Communications, Legal, and Community Engagement, and keep the Foundation’s teams and community informed about the team’s work and project status.

Product Managers at Wikimedia collaborate with engineers, designers, researchers, and user communities to develop features, products, and services used globally. This role offers a significant opportunity for positive impact worldwide.


  • Collaborate with key partners to develop and execute strategies and goals for MediaWiki software.
  • Build and track progress towards long-term roadmaps.
  • Communicate goals, statuses, and findings throughout development to internal and external partners.
  • Identify and address blockers and other issues with senior management.


  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of Product Management experience
  • Experience delivering developer-focused products and APIs
  • Experience working with skilled engineering teams
  • Familiarity with monolithic code bases and service-oriented architectures
  • Effective development process implementation and execution
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Passion for increasing participation in Wikimedia projects
  • Experience with open-source software development


  • Experience with the Wikipedia and Wikimedia community
  • Familiarity with MediaWiki software and deployment
  • Knowledge of PHP and Node.js
  • Experience creating public documentation for third-party developers
  • Experience with wiki communities or user-generated content communities
