Job Description

The News Revenue Hub is looking for contract data analysts to assist with ongoing analysis of Google Analytics and Parse.ly data.

These analysts will support newsrooms in leveraging audience data to highlight metrics that drive audience growth, loyalty, donations, and other key performance indicators. They will be proficient in configuring and collecting audience data from platforms like Google Analytics and Parse.ly, and translating it into benchmarks, strategies, and actionable insights. Working with multiple newsrooms offers unique opportunities and benefits with the Hub.

The News Revenue Hub is a mission-focused 501(c)3 nonprofit committed to helping news organizations achieve financial sustainability. We assist our members in implementing fundraising models and audience strategies to build a loyal, sustained readership.

As a data analyst, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Extracting and cleaning site traffic data by audience segment, referrer source, and site sections to identify trends from Parse.ly and Google Analytics
  • Performing analyses on audience behavior and engagement to guide newsrooms’ editorial and audience strategies
  • Providing recommendations to newsroom leaders on where to invest time and resources to achieve organizational goals
  • Analyzing topic and category performance by audience segment to identify common behavioral trends
  • Converting data into reports and presentations for non-technical audiences

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Proven experience with Parse.ly, Google Analytics (or similar), and data analysis using Google Sheets or Excel
  • Expertise in extracting and cleaning website and content analytics data for detailed analysis
  • Understanding of how newsrooms categorize and sort traffic data by article and site sections
  • High integrity and discretion, with a willingness to sign a nondisclosure agreement
  • Skills in data analysis and visualization, deriving actionable insights, and communicating strategies to non-technical audiences
  • Experience in a newsroom environment and in communicating with editors and senior newsroom leaders
  • A passion for detail-oriented analysis and identifying key trends and results

Additional desirable, but not required, skills include:

  • Data management and programming skills in Python and SQL
  • Experience with data migrations and quality assurance

Salary and Compensation:

$60,000 — $110,000/year
