Job Description

Change.org is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a newly formed team focused on developing tailored solutions for Change.org’s platform in key emerging markets across Asia, Latin America, and Africa. As the largest tech platform dedicated to civic action globally, Change.org boasts 100 million monthly users and facilitates 50,000 campaigns each month. This team is dedicated to empowering users in emerging markets, and we’re looking for individuals who share this passion. Your role will directly impact the accessibility and functionality of the Change.org platform for millions of users, enhancing campaign tools and facilitating microdonations at scale, particularly focusing on non-Western democracies.

We’re seeking candidates who can effectively operate at scale, manage priorities autonomously, and drive progress independently. Typically, Senior Software Engineers have 4-5 years of relevant experience, encompassing activities beyond coding such as monitoring, integration testing, and production support.

This is a full-time position with the flexibility to be based anywhere, collaborating with a globally dispersed team and reporting to the Engineering Lead in Victoria, Canada.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Integrating our global Payment Platform with local payment gateways to meet specific market needs.
  • Developing and optimizing petition flows to enhance impact and quality.
  • Delivering features across various technologies and frameworks within the web stack.
  • Mentoring and sharing knowledge with team members.
  • Ensuring a seamless user experience across all countries.
  • Maintaining service availability and reliability in production environments.
  • Operating within an agile development framework.
  • Upholding best engineering practices and contributing to long-term strategy.

Requirements include:

  • 4-5 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Strong communication skills in English.
  • Full-stack development experience with proficiency in JavaScript frameworks and at least one backend technology (Node.js/Javascript, Ruby/Rails, or Elixir).
  • Experience designing and building scalable, distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and remote collaboration.
  • Knowledge of security best practices in development.

Nice-to-have skills include experience with payment gateways, GraphQL, containerization, event-driven architecture, and AWS.

You’ll be working with a modern stack featuring React.js, GraphQL, microservices architecture, and cloud-based infrastructure through AWS.

Benefits include extended medical coverage, generous paid time off, and parental leave. Change.org fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace and encourages applicants from various backgrounds to apply. We’re committed to creating a world where everyone can enact change, and we hope you’ll join us on this journey. The evaluation process includes initial interviews and technical assessments, and we look forward to welcoming passionate and dedicated individuals to our team.
