GitHub is revolutionizing software development worldwide, and we want your expertise to contribute to this transformation. We’re seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to collaborate with a talented and dispersed team of engineers dedicated to enhancing GitHub’s billing platform.

In this role, you’ll oversee one of the Billing teams within our platform engineering division. This group is instrumental in supporting all our diverse paid GitHub products, including various pricing models like per-seat and consumption-based pricing. We handle over 27 million usage records monthly, process approximately 13,000 payments per day, and manage nearly $40 million in revenue each month. Operating at such a scale, our work is pivotal to GitHub’s success.

We’re looking for a seasoned people manager with prior hands-on engineering experience. While you don’t need expertise in every aspect of this team’s responsibilities, you should be adept at offering guidance, feedback, and support to your team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Foster an environment where team members feel empowered, take ownership, and foster a strong sense of belonging.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with team members.
  • Ensure team members are continuously learning, growing, and progressing in their careers.
  • Ensure the team develops software that adheres to architectural consistency, high quality, and operational best practices.
  • Ensure the team consistently delivers products, features, and bug fixes.
  • Ensure clarity regarding project direction and decision-making rationale for the team, company, and GitHub community.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience mentoring engineers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Passion for promoting good engineering practices and processes.
  • Experience collaborating with a distributed team.
  • Experience in developing strategies and roadmaps for teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing or developing billing software teams.
  • Passion or experience in building billing and commerce platforms.
  • Passion or experience in software supporting culturally diverse groups.
  • Experience managing distributed teams.
